Champion pair to shine in Guineas

first_imgWAYNE DaCosta’s SHE’S A MANEATER and FEARLESS SAMURAI are favourites to hand the champion pair of trainer Wayne DaCosta and jockey Omar Walker a historic 1000-2000 Guineas double at Caymanas Park this afternoon. SHE’S A MANEATER, the 1000 Guineas favourite, is yet to be beaten by a filly in six starts, losing her only race to a colt – Anthony Nunes’ SOTOMAYOR in December’s Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes at a mile. She returned in last month’s seven-furlong Thornbird Stakes and closed strongly in the stretch run under Walker to win by a half-length, beating MONEY MAGNET and BILINGUAL, though encountering traffic problems with top weight 57.0 kilos down the backstretch. FEARLESS SAMURAI won the March 18 Prince Consort Stakes in convincing fashion, putting DaCosta on track to landing a historic Guineas double – a feat completed by only five trainers – Paul Newman (1980), Kenneth Mattis (1981), Billy Williams (1991), Philip Feanny (1992 and 1993), and Gary Subratie (2011). SHE’S A MANEATER is DaCosta’s lone starter in the 1000 Guineas in which her main rivals, MARLENE MY LOVE, MONEY MAGNET and BILINGUAL, are working well, but will have to defy the handicaps, weight swings ranging from five to eight pounds coming out of the Thornbird Stakes. BEST RACE OF CAREER Meanwhile, FEARLESS SAMURAI, a bold front runner, ran the best race of his career in the Prince Consort, repelling a determined effort from WESTERN WARRIOR to cruise home by three lengths with Walker aboard. FEARLESS SAMURAI is one of four runners in the event for DaCosta, setting up what should be a tactically great race, considering Nunes’ BALAZO got into the one-mile event from the also-eligible position of number 18 following the withdrawal of his injured stablemates, ICTUS and DONTAE. BALAZO returned off a near seven-month lay-up last Wednesday to win by almost 10 lengths at 1300 metres, blazing splits of 23.3, 34.4, 46.3, 58.3 and 1:12.3, ending in 1:20.2. Nunes’ second runner is SOTOMAYOR, who is yet to reproduce his winning Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes form in two races since. Speedy BALAZO, however, comes in with great credentials and is partnered by Robert Halledeen, who is fast becoming a go-to big-race jockey. DaCosta’s answer to BALAZO’s potentially disturbing speed appears to be LOOSE CANNON, whose stamina limitations were exposed at six furlongs in February’s Sir Howard Stakes when caught and beaten by DON CHASSIS. He returned to show that he’s a mean sprinter by clocking 1:05.4 at 1100 metres last month. FEARLESS SAMURAI showed in the Prince Consort that he was much improved. He rated well under pressure and will definitely get a mile from on or just about off the pace. It appears that the cheekpieces fitted that afternoon was what he had needed all along to settle down.last_img read more

I didn’t know it had arrived until my husband walked through the door declaring that it was time he had a haircut – and there he stood wearing this wig. After that my neighbour had to try it – she’s a tiny little 85 year old, so you can perhaps imagine the laughter. Anyway, fun aside, this is a lovely colour – a shimmery silvery grey/blonde. The hair is very long with a slight wave and curl, and a very heavy, long fringe, which could be trimmed accordingly if required. It comes complete with a special metal-toothed comb and a hairnet in which to keep your own hair. I wish i’d had this when i was a teenager when i craved long hair; it’s amazing how different wearing a long wig can make you feel. This, i can already see, will be great fun at parties, and with hallowe’en around the corner we’ll probably be fighting over who gets to wear it. I may be able to take some photographs at a later date. I was sent this free of charge in order to evaluate and review it. Arrived well within the time it said and looks like the picture, first wig so can’t compare but i think it looks good. last_img read more

You Can Do Almost Everything Right And Lose

first_img Essential Reading! Get my 3rd book: Eat Their Lunch “The first ever playbook for B2B salespeople on how to win clients and customers who are already being serviced by your competition.” Buy Now It’s tough to lose a deal that you should have won. It’s even tougher when you know that you could create and deliver greater value than your competitor, and when your dream client made a poor decision (like putting price above the outcome). You can do an excellent job targeting your dream client, nurturing the relationship over time, and developing an opportunity. You can choose the right targets and still lose, but that doesn’t mean you should stop working on these difficult to win clients; receptive prospects that aren’t really targets don’t improve your chances of winning. You can discover your dream client’s most strategic needs, needs they insist that are critical to their future success. You can build consensus within their team around those needs, and you can gain verbal agreements that your solution is right. You can do these things and still lose an opportunity. But that doesn’t mean that these aren’t the things that are required to sell effectively and win. It’s difficult to present well. Most people aren’t nearly as good as they believe themselves to be. But you can present well, connect and engage with your prospective client, and knock every question they ask out of the park, only to lose that opportunity. This is true, and you still need to do your homework and prepare to present. When you do everything right and lose, it is usually one of two things that caused you to lose. The first is that you didn’t create greater value than your competitor. This is especially difficult to do when someone within your dream client only perceives lowest price as value. But your prospect allows buys what they believe to be the greatest value. The second is that you didn’t resolve your prospect’s concerns; they don’t trust you enough to deliver the results they need. Your customers always buy from someone they believe will execute and deliver. The only way to get better is to accept that you are responsible for your failures (in this case, lost deals), and to start doing something different. When you accept responsibility, you also empower yourself to take new actions and succeed in the future.last_img read more

FIFA U-17 World Cup: Players are not obliged to win but to play to win, says India coach Luis Norton de Matos

first_imgThe official draw of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which was held in Mumbai on July 8, divided the 24 participating nations into six groups, each consisting of four teams.Hosts India are drawn into Group A along with USA, Colombia and Ghana and will be playing USA in their tournament opener on October 6 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. The rest of the groups are as follows:Group B: Paraguay, Mali, New Zealand and Turkey.Group C: Iran, Guinea, Germany, Costa Rica.Group D: North Korea, Niger, Brazil and Spain.Group E: Honduras, Japan, New Caledonia and France.Group F: Iraq, Mexico, Chile and England.India are hosting and participating in a FIFA tournament for the first time and along with them, New Caledonia and Niger are making their first appearance in a major FIFA event.India, who are called the sleeping giants of football, have been drawn into a tough group and will have a major challenge in the first game itself against USA. Only once in their history, USA have failed to make it to the U-17 World Cup.”I think the first game (against USA) is the most important. I’m going to prepare very well, as will the players, and if we win, we have a good chance to progress. We will fight for that,” India coach Luis Norton de Matos said to FIFA.De Matos said that India are up against stronger opponents but will play to win.”I like this challenge, even though there are stronger favourites. USA only missed one U-17 World Cup, Colombia are one of the strongest teams in South America, and Ghana are one of the best teams in Africa. The players are not obliged to win, but are obliged to play to win,” de Matos added.advertisementDe Matos was appointed as India U-17 coach only in March and has since taken the U-17 World Cup team to exposure tours in Portugal, Italy and France. De Matos wants the young team to feel competent and capable of winning.”At the end of each game, I want the young people to feel that they can play against big teams as equals. I feel it is possible with work. I feel I can bring something to Indian football,” the coach said.De Matos urged the fans to throng the stadium to ‘Back the Blue’ and said that players perform better with support from the stands.”It is important for us that the Indian people come to the stadium. We are going to play with 11 players on the pitch, plus one from the stands. I was a football player, and I know you can play 10 to 20 per cent better, if you have this kind of support. What I want is that people are proud at the end of the game.”NEW CALEDONIA LOOK TO BEGIN FOOTBALLING STORYFellow newcomers New Caledonia are also drawn against big teams like France and Japan and their coach Michel Clarque wants the team to do their best and live the dream of playing a World Cup.”We have been living in a dream since February when we qualified. In our little nation of New Caledonia, to play a World Cup, it’s a wonderful thing, a dream. I want to share this dream with the players.”I will tell them that now your final challenge is to do our best. Like Vanuatu in the U-20 World Cup, a small country who did well against Mexico, Germany and Venezuela, if we can do as well as them, it will be great for Oceania as well,” Clarque said to FIFA.Clarque expressed hope that this will be the beginning of a footballing story in New Caledonia.”We want to do our best to develop the players. These U-17s will then become U-20. This is the beginning of their story. I hope for them that it will go on.”GERMANY, MALI WISH TO DOMINATEOn the other hand, current World Cup and Confederations Cup champions Germany are one of the favourites for the tournament and their coach Christian Wuck thinks the same.”We have a very good offensive team. We have very talented players, so I think we are favourites here, but not the only ones,” Wuck said to FIFA.Wuck mentioned that the weather in India is hot and humid and the players will have to adapt to it.”It’s very hot and very humid here and the players have to adapt, but I think it’s a beautiful country, so I’m very happy to be here. We are going to Goa and to Kochi and look how it will be.”advertisement2015 finalists Mali have been drawn into a competitive group with New Zealand, Paraguay and Turkey, where none of the teams can be considered as clear favourites to advance.Mali’s coach Jonas Komla said that they will be taking one game at a time and wants his players to relish this unforgettable journey.”I’m looking at it match by match. The first objective is to get out of the group, and after that, we will see how we progress.”All the teams in the group are very good, and we are happy to be facing them. It is something that’s unforgettable for the players and I’m very positive about the venues we’ll play in too,” Komla said to FIFA.last_img read more

first_imgReally? Southgate surprise new name on Man Utd shortlistby Paul Vegas9 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveEngland coach Gareth Southgate is on the managerial shortlist at Manchester United. The Daily Mail says United have added Southgate to the list of potential managers to take over in the summer as they are becoming increasingly concerned that Mauricio Pochettino will stay at Tottenham.Southgate signed a new contract to stay on as England manager until the end of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar following the Three Lions’ success in Russia.A chance to jump ship may prove difficult following his recent contract renewal with the national team, and while Southgate has been added as a viable option to take over at United, the Red Devils are wary of his experience at club level.Prior to his success with England, Southgate has only had one spell at club level where he managed Middlesbrough for three years between 2006 and 2009.
