Pilots and drone operators can confirm the current TFR restrictions at https://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_9_4869.html. Be advised that drone operation is not permitted on the Refuge. Sarah Saarloos with DOF: “With this cooler, cloudier weather crews were really able to make progress on that southwest corner with being able to reinforce that indirect line and get those strengthened in case we move into warmer weather which is forecasted mid week.”  Motorists reminded to yield to fire apparatus entering the Sterling Highway and to adhere to traffic signage staged near miles 82 and 92. There is a total of 94 staff members, and the fire remains 5.5 miles from the City of Sterling. Saarloos: “We do have the Pioneer Peak, Gannett Glacier, and UAF crews. We also added the local Yukon fire crew into the mix on Sunday. They are in that same southwest portion of the fire.”  Saarloos: “With the distance away from the fire, there is a plan in place to go out and put protections out there if needed.”  Facebook0TwitterEmailPrintFriendly分享The moderating weather throughout the weekend resulted in minimal fire growth at the Swan Lake Fire, with the latest size estimate of 12,782 acres. This is an increase of only about 200 acres, according to the Alaska Division of Forestry. Assessments were made on Sunday on infrastructure north of the fire including a public-use cabin, to determine what protections would be needed if fire activity intensifies over this week. On Sunday, as expected, crews anticipated a change in the weather to warmer and drier, firefighters worked to continue building and fortifying line along the south finger of the fire, south of the pipeline corridor. Helicopters will continue supporting crews this week with bucket drops of water as needed. Crews made progress improving the fireline along the southwest edge of the fire near the community of Sterling. Work included enhancing protections around energy infrastructure, according to Saarloos.last_img read more

Developer Christian Spencer Leisure has identified vacant land off King Street, Fenton – near KFC – for the proposed development. The petrol station will boast up to eight pumps and have 28 parking spaces. But the developer is refusing to name which ‘major national chain’ has already signed up to operate the drive-thru cafe. The development should create between 25 and 32 full-time equivalent jobs. King Street, Fenton. The convenience store would provide the kiosk for fuel sales and cater primarily to passing motorists and, in addition to fuel sales, help to meet their daily convenience top-up shopping needs.” Nearby residents have welcomed the scheme. The land used to be part of the former Diamond Gimson works which stopped operating in 1999. It will add to the traffic around King Street but we can’t stop that and something will go there eventually.” Graham Baddeley, of Victoria Place, added: “The land has been vacant for quite some time and there are plenty of things that could be built there. Sainsbury’s would have been quite nice to save us having to go to Stoke.” Joe Heaney, of Fenton, said: “It won’t cause any problems to anyone.” Council planners are set to rule on the application within weeks.
