Volleyball Travels To No. 25 UNI For Critical MVC Match

first_img The Drake University volleyball team travels to No. 25 UNI Tuesday, Oct. 17, evening for a mid-week Missouri Valley Conference match. Both teams enter the match tied for second in the MVC standings with matching 7-1 conference records. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the McLeod Center.Drake and UNI both suffered their first conference losses over the weekend to MVC leader Missouri State. The Bulldogs dropped a 3-2 decision to the Bears, while UNI fell, 4-1.Drake’s loss snapped its 10-match winning streak, which was the fifth longest in the nation. However, the Bulldogs have won 11 of their last 12 matches and are 11-3 in their last 14 MVC matches dating back to last season.Defense has been key to the Bulldogs’ resurgence as the team is second in the nation in total digs (1,592) and fourth in digs per set (18.7) after setting a school record with 130 digs in the match against Missouri State. At the net, Drake ranks second in the MVC in blocks in league games with the reigning MVC Freshman of the Week, Gillian Gergen (Janesville, Iowa), leading the MVC in blocks in league games with 1.33 per set.
